Nancy Salgueiro, B.Sc., D.C.

Dr. Salgueiro was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her first job was as a homecare worker, caring for the elderly and disabled children. Dr. Salgueiro also volunteered at a hospital, and realized through her experiences that she wanted to serve others by working in the health care field. Dr. Salgueiro began her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Manitoba.

After learning more about the human body and its natural healing abilities she decided to look into natural health care. Through her personal experience as a chiropractic patient, and the life changing experiences of her friends and loved ones, Dr. Salgueiro decided she wanted to be a Doctor of Chiropractic.

After completing her B.Sc., Dr. Salgueiro moved to Marietta, Georgia to begin the intense 4-year chiropractic program offered by Life University. During her internship, Dr. Salgueiro became proficient in many chiropractic techniques, including Activator, Thompson, Sacro Occipital Technique, Full spine diversified, and Webster In-Utero Technique.

This training gives Dr. Salgueiro the tools necessary to individualize the care her patients receive. Dr. Salgueiro graduated at the top of her class from Life University.

A key experience in Dr. Salgueiro's life was a mission trip to India. Hundreds of families were provided with chiropractic care and it was at this time that she discovered her passion within chiropractic; caring for pregnant mothers, children, and families as a whole.

Dr. Salgueiro obtained her Webster In-Utero Certification in November 2000, which is a protocol used to relieve In-Utero constraint, well known for its success at turning breach babies. Dr. Salgueiro completed the 120-hour certification program in pediatric and perinatal care offered by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) in June 2002. She will be pursuing further studies with the ICPA to complete the entire 360-hour Diplomate program in pediatrics.

With her love for children as her primary focus in practice and life, Dr. Salgueiro started her family in 2006 by giving birth to her daughter Leilani at home right here in Barrhaven.  With a family based chiropractic practice Leilani is a part of the office team, often being the first one to greet people as they walk in the door.

Dr. Salgueiro is continuously upgrading her knowledge and skills with continuing education seminars. She is also active in the Barrhaven community, a member of the Midwifery Consumers Group, and La Leche League Canada . She is certified to install children’s car seats and volunteers at car seat clinics with SEATS coalition.  She also spends her time doing community service talks to schools, clubs, and businesses in the area.

Micael Carreira, B.Sc., D.C.

Dr. Micael Carreira was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Through volunteer experience at a local hospital, he found that he enjoyed working with the staff and helping the patients. He decided to pursue this interest and began working towards a Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Manitoba, focusing on biology and physiology.

Dr. Carreira was introduced to chiropractic through a friend, became a patient, and experienced the benefits first hand. After learning about the profession and its natural and non-invasive approach, Dr. Carreira knew he had found a profession that fit his health care model perfectly.

Dr. Carreira completed his B.Sc., graduating with honors, and went to Life University to pursue his chiropractic training. He became proficient in multiple techniques, such as Full spine diversified, Thompson, Sacro Occipital Technique, Activator and Webster’s In-Utero Technique.

He has also completed hundreds of hours of post secondary training seminars studying rehabilitation, nutrition, pediatric adjusting, and extremity adjusting procedures. Dr. Carreira is always upgrading his skills so he can provide state of the art care based on the newest chiropractic research.

In his pursuit to share chiropractic, Dr. Carreira became involved with a chiropractic mission trip to India, which proved to be an amazing experience. Helping families in need of care, and working to bring chiropractic to others around the world was a wonderful experience.

Dr. Carreira and his wife Dr. Salgueiro are the only husband and wife chiropractic team in Barrhaven. Together they started Marketplace Family Chiropractic Centre to make sure their community had access to great chiropractic care for the whole family.

Heather Resvick R.H.N. -
Registered Holistic Nutritionist

“Health is a matter of choice, not a mystery of chance” ~ Aristotle

Heather was raised in London, ON, the first born in a close knit family. As a child and young adult Heather was actively involved in competitive sports, she loved going to school and took pride in learning something new every day. While Heather has always had a passion for nutrition her post secondary education was in sciences. During this time Heather struggled with many health issues and became empowered to search out answers and alternatives when traditional approaches were incomplete or ineffective.

Heather worked in the financial services industry as an assistant at a brokerage firm for 10 years. As a ‘people person’ Heather thrived in this fast paced and hectic lifestyle but following the premature birth of her daughter 2004 and the challenges that followed she realized what as truly important and for Heather that was family, health and well being.

The Canadian School of Natural Nutrition became the synergy that Heather was looking for. Formal studies in the area of Holistic Nutrition have provided the frame work from which Heather has built her consulting practice. Looking at the whole person who is unique in make-up and constitution allows for a comprehensive and personal approach. Heather’s enthusiasm for an integrated and balanced model of health and wellness provide the foundation for her recommendations.

A sought out speaker and educator, Heather currently lives in Barrhaven with her husband and daughter.

Lisa Brennan, B.A. Hons Spanish

Lisa was born in Kingston, Ontario and grew up in the 1000 Islands region, just outside of Brockville. A typical small town country girl, she loved to ride her bike to the beach in the summers and cross country ski in the woods in the winters. She was very active in school, playing many sports but her favourites were basketball and volleyball. She got the opportunity to participate in a student exchange program in grade 11 and after 3 months in Spain, realized her love of languages. That led to her enrolling in the University of Ottawa in the Honours Spanish program. After studying her third year at the Universidad de Malaga, Spain, and becoming fluent in the language, she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree, graduating cum laude.

After working for many years as a park ranger at a campsite, Lisa grew to love the tourism industry and the fact that you could meet people from all over the world. That experience and her language skills landed her a job as a destination representative in Cancun, Mexico for Signature Vacations. After one year abroad, she decided that living life out of a suitcase was not the life for her so she settled back into Ottawa where she continued working for SV as a business development rep.

Lisa only recently became aware of the benefits of chiropractic care as she became a patient while pregnant with her second child. She instantly felt right at home with the team at Marketplace Family Chiropractic and embraced the warm, friendly atmosphere and positive energy that filled the room. She has learned a lot about the body’s amazing ability to heal itself and truly believes that we have the power to be physically, emotionally and spiritually healthy if we include regular chiropractic care as part of our self-care routine.

Lisa continues to learn about ways to enrich the health and happiness of herself and her family. She has a wonderful husband and is blessed with two beautiful children, Ella and Wesley. She loves just being a family and seeing life through the eyes of a child. When she has some down time, she enjoys camping, hiking, biking, rollerblading, reading and travelling.

Leslie was born and raised in Nepean, Ontario, and has always had a passion for health, nutrition, and how the body functions. Both her father and grandfather understood how important chiropractic care was for the entire family, and so Leslie and her two sisters began chiropractic care at a very early age and have been chiropractic ambassadors ever since!

She feels honored and fulfilled that she finally found a work environment whose mission and goals are similar to her own beliefs.
